FAQ

What can your agency do that I would not be able to do on my own?

At Global Solid Care we know what it takes to find the right caregiver for your loved ones. In order to form a perfect match, we assess both employers and caregivers on a wide variety of factors. The most important thing to note is that by using an agency you are eliminating that first major step of locating a potential caregiver. Not only will Global Solid Care save you time, we will also save you from the unnecessary stress of finding the right person.

How do I start the process?

Your first step is to contact our office. Upon your call, you will speak to an agent who will ask you a series of questions in an effort to gain a better understanding of what you need and desire in a caregiver. This part of the process helps to ensure that we are able to seamlessly match our employers and caregivers; thus alleviating a great deal of stress for our clients.

What level of training and hands-on experience do the candidates possess?

In order to work as a live-in caregiver in Canada, one must have completed at least 6 months of full-time training in a classroom setting or possess one year of experience working full-time in a field related to caregiving. Every candidate selected by Global Solid Care exceeds these requirements. Our candidates have either undergone both training and experience, or have been employed in the field for several years. In addition, Immigration Canada requires that all caregivers immigrating from overseas have taken at least 72 units of education. Depending on the education standards in their country of origin this could be equivalent to either a high school or post-secondary level. For additional immigration requirements put forth for caregivers by the Canadian government, please see the Terms and Conditions section of the Service page.

What kind of restrictions exist with regards to the hours my caregiver can work? For example, can she work only part-time? Can we ask her to babysit in the evenings?

A live-out caregiver may work part-time, however, a live-in caregiver is considered to be a full-time employee. As a result, your live-in caregiver’s salary should be based upon a 44 hour work week. These hours can be flexible (i.e. asking the caregiver to babysit in the evenings); nevertheless, it is only fair for the employer to provide some degree of predictability. A caregiver may work fewer hours while receiving the same monthly salary, but if she works more than 44 hours per week, it is necessary to compensate her either in the form of a mutually agreed upon monetary amount or extra time off at a later date. It is important to note that anytime the caregiver’s presence is required (whether she is on-call overnight or accompanying a member of the family on an outing), she is considered to be working and therefore entitled to compensation.

What is the course of action if the caregiver is found to be unsuitable after only a short amount of time in Canada?

If the family chooses to terminate the contract before its completion, it is necessary to give the caregiver two weeks’ notice or the equivalent monetary compensation. At this point, a caregiver has two options. She may choose to return to her country of origin or she may attempt to find another employer in Canada. This process of searching for an alternate employer is often quite lengthy; therefore it is recommended that the employer give the caregiver as much notice as possible.

What kind of accommodation will the caregiver require?

You will be required to provide your live-in caregiver with at least one private room in the house. This room must have a lock on it. The caregiver must have access to a bathroom, but it may be shared. You will, of course, want to make your caregiver’s living quarters as comfortable as possible in an effort to make her feel welcome in your home.

How much will it cost to employ a nanny/caregiver?

The salary your nanny/caregiver must receive varies depending on the province and city in which she will be employed. On average, a live-in caregiver costs approximately 30% less than a caregiver employed on a live-out part-time basis. That being said, a full-time live-in caregiver will typically receive $9.25-$15 per hour while being employed on a typical schedule of 8 hour days, 5 days per week.

How long will it take for Global Solid Care to find me a caregiver?

Global Solid Care is in constant contact with a large network of agents and offices to make your task easier. We are constantly receiving applications from new and qualified candidates who have already been pre-screened and personally interviewed. Global Solid Care promises you no wait times. The only time you will have to dedicate to finding a nanny is the time it takes to search our convenient, user-friendly database.

What are some of the typical responsibilities I can expect my nanny/caregiver to take on?

A nanny’s primary function is to provide care for your children or elderly or disabled family member. While a caregiver’s responsibilities will vary from family to family, typical daily duties while taking care of children may include feeding, bathing, preparing meals, monitoring daytime activities and rest periods, and attending to a child’s personal and emotional needs. With regards to the elderly, responsibilities may include bathing, feeding, administering medication, and keeping track of assistive devices (i.e. wheelchair, walker). In both cases, a caregiver may also perform basic housekeeping tasks.

How much will your agency charge us to find the perfect nanny/caregiver?

Unlike other agencies who may charge you more than $1000 for their services, Global Solid Care charges a much more reasonable fee of $700. Even more appealing is the fact that we specialize in canada and dont work with overseas like other agencies who may prefer you hire a nanny from abroad but not us. We prefer you see and interview the nanny/caregiver in person.

Do you provide any post-placement support?

YES. Our mission at Global Solid Care is to provide you with the highest level of quality and service. Therefore, maintaining long-lasting relationships with our clients is among our top priorities. We are dedicated to providing support to our caregivers and employers throughout the matching process and beyond. Please do not hesitate to call us if you require assistance of any kind.
